Sony KDL-43w755c buzzing static noise from speakears on low volume

Hi.

My tv is making static noise when volume is set around 15 or below. The noise only appears when there's actually sound coming from the speakers (for example someone talking in a movie).

If the tv is silent (sitting in a menu not doing anything) the noise is gone, but it comes back with each system sound (keytone) which is follewed by sort of a grindy echo sound. In some of the apps (for instance Kodi) each click is followed either by a short static noise that goes away within seconds, or the noise remains there longer (seems to be random).

If the volume is set low, during the dialogs in the movies, the static noise is constantly there, and everything sounds distorted, almost like old tv sets used to sound like if the signal was not good enough.

My tv is KDL-43w755c running on Android 5.1.1 build 3.473. I have tried fiddling with the sound controls, but nothing seems to help resolve the issue. I have also noticed that the similar issue has been reported by multiple people, but it is not listed in the big 2015 Android TV - Bugs and Issues thread.

Any feedback/help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

First things first:

  • Ensure that you have the latest firmware installed on the TV.  A new firmware version was released today, see HERE
  • Perform a factory reset of the TV - see HERE for instructions.

If that fails to fix the problem, try going to the Sound Settings and either enable or disable ClearAudio+ and see if that helps.

Cheers

Hi Quinnicus.

I already tried doing a reset and disabling ClearAudio+, as well as the Night Mode and Surround. The buzzing seems to decrease somewhat depening on what's turned on/off, but it's still there.

What's confusing is that the buzzing is not consistent. For example, system/menu sound is someto,e followed by a static noise, and sometime it's not.  Best I can describe it is whenever TV produces a sound more often that not, it is followed by a buzz. Sort of like a mic that turns itself autamaticly on when you're speaking into it, and there's a fan behind you making noise.

I started the update, will report if it fixes the issue.

Cool - fingers crossed.  As to be honest, I am unsure on how to help if FW update and factory reset doesnt work.  But lets cross that bridge if we get to it.

Just finished the update, but no luck - the issue is still there.

Made a short YouTube clip too - https://youtu.be/0p6--PIMQoQ in case someone does a search on Google. The buzzing starts at around 0:19.

Hi there

Before I pass this to Sony support - can you please confirm if you have done a factory reset?  They would ask do you this anyhow.

Hi Quinnicus.

I did it twice, once before and once after the yesterday's update. It made no difference whatsoever.

Cheers,

Dan.

Hi there

Thanks for confirming.  I have passed this thread onto Sony Support for them to investigate and get back to you.  They should be in touch within a day or two - probably for more questions.
