Sony X8309C HDR

Hello. I have a questions. X8309c support HDR? It's possible for me play Playstation 4 Pro with HDR? And what input lag will be in games(playble or not)? Because today new firmware available and there only x850 model only input lag reduced. What about mine x83? Thank u!

No, this set does not support HDR, and the best information I have suggests this is a fundamental limitation of the components of this set, so it will never have it 😞

But at previous updates was added HDR support. I can watch HDR demo videos with HDR quality. I'm worrying about Ps 4 pro gaming. And nowhere can find input lag with HDR for this tv.

I'd love you to be right, because I have this same model of TV.

But here are the full specs, and there is not a sniff of HDR:-

https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/televisions/x8300c-series/specifications

So can you provide a link to where you saw HDR had been added to the X83s?

And yes, you can watch HDR demos, because the HDR information is additional metadata to the regular signal, so an ordinary set isn't going to go blank when you feed it an HDR signal.

So how do you know you are getting HDR? Is there anything that comes up from the set itself to confirm this?

Hi there

In addition to what Royabrown says above, going back to a previous firmware update:

https://www.sony-europe.com/support/en/content/cnt-dwnl/prd-tvhc/kd-4K-2015-android-models-update-v3...

It mentions:

Benefits and improvements:

  • Netflix HDR Support (4K HDR models: X85C, S85C, X91C, X90C, X93C and X94C only)

However I believe there are some people who have reported that HDR works on some model TVs that shouldnt be HDR compatible.  However it will only work on playback of HDR files via USB.  However if this works, it is an un-intended benefit.

You can test this by downloading a HDR file from: http://demo-uhd3d.com/categorie.php?tag=hdr   Then bang it on a USB drive and playback either via Kodi or the Video app.  Upon playback, goto the Action Menu and Picture and see if Picture Mode says HDR Video.

Other than that, im afraid your TV is not HDR compatible.

Sony does not release input lag statistics unfortunately, but sometimes website reviews test for this, so Google is your friend on this one.

Cheers

I went after that HDR file, and the site said:-

Cette catégorie n'existe pas.

which I think is French for 404 😞

But anyway, I think that for HDR, you need a screen, and the supporting hardware, to go that bright, and display that colour gamut, that HDR compatibility specifies.

And you can't just drive any old panel to those specs, if the panel hasn't got the capability so to be driven.

Which the panel in the X83s hasn't.

Or am I wrong about this, on either count?

@royabrown

Are you running a VPN?

I just chose the "Sony 4K - Camp HDR" demo ( http://demo-uhd3d.com/fiche.php?cat=uhd&id=144 ) - scroll down until you find the big blue Download button and away you go.

It actually links to this:
