Hey UKuser1357,

-Your TV won't get the ITVX, Sony supplied links to send your feedback directly to the broadcaster who limited this:

https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00287614

-If you want the old interface (Not the Google one), you can revert to basic TV either from Initial Setup:

https://helpguide.sony.net/tv/faep1/v1/en/07-01_12.html?hl=basic

Or by resetting your TV to the factory settings and choosing basic in the setup process:

https://helpguide.sony.net/tv/faep1/v1/en/08-01_03.html?hl=factory

-Regarding the last point: "Audio only". I need more info about that, what do you use to download films? Did you try reverting to regular TV first, then trying to download again? What makes this message go away?

They says that for the Google TV based TVs but don't actually say that for Android TV based ones

Thanks to HannahEd01 for posting the link to the supported/non supported Sony models.

I have a KD-49XG8396 2019 smart tv and was horrified to find it on the first line of unsupported models. I have to confess that I never dreamt that such a relatively new model should find itself on this list. All the other televisions in the house (far cheaper and considered lesser brands) have quietly moved onto the ITVx platform.

I don't normally get riled but in this instance I did contact Sont support for an explanation. They say the it is the fault of ITVx and not Sony. I queried whether it was a software incompatability with the unsupported models but was quickly and assertively directed back to ITVx as the culprit. However, if this was the case, I'd like an explanation as to why older televisions appear in the supported list.

Yes, I realise I can cast, install a Firesick etc to bridge the shortcoming on my tv not having ITVx compatability but to be quite honest, I don't see why I should be forced to do it to restore the function I previously had with the ITV Hub. This TV was purchased in 2020 from a major High Street retailer, whose representitive extolled it's virues as a flagship model at the time. It seems just 3 years later, the flag to the mast has snapped and you can't buy another one!

Like several posts on here, I too feel terribly let down and would certainly not entertain purchasing another Sony product.

Rant over - if anyone can shed any light on whose fault it is (ie Sony or ITVx), I'd be grateful.

Hey chrish, I'd be honest with you, it's less of a who's fault is it and more of a software limitation and business decisions.
I mean as you said there's older TVs that support it based on the link, but it seems that they are considered the flagship of each year, I can even even see some XG models supported unfortunately not yours, which means that most likely it's up to software/hardware limitation due to the installed board and RAM and whether the TV can handle it or not.
However, are you gonna be a lengthy explanation as to why it's not supported by Sony or ITV? probably not, so don't get stuck on it too much, all the best mate.

My Sony KD-43XG8305 can’t even bring up the itvx app icon when searching in the Google play store. And it has been like this since itvx was launched. Does anyone have any idea why Sony tvs can’t access itvx???

This is a community that is run from a Sony website. Does anyone think it’s strange that, whilst many members are posting comments about disappointment with Sony’s approach to updating apps, if anyone from Sony is monitoring these posts why aren’t they taking any action to resolve the issue?

Joner - your TV has the same XG83 in the product name as mine and I too cannot bring up the ITVx on the tv's Google playstore. I'm sure therwill be far more learned posters out there who can correct me but I'm assuming that this isn't visible to us XG83 owners, as the ITVx app wont run with the software we've got in the tv. Is this something Google playstore automatically checks before offering it up for download?

This all brings us back to the concept of transparency on Sony's part. XG85 and XG87 models are supported. Is this down to a conscious decision not to support the upgrade on our 'numerically' lower units or a genuine software incompatibility? As I said in my previous post, Sony Support quite clearly are pointing the finger at ITVx and not accepting any responsibility on their part.

In any event, I fully endorse your comments relating to Sony apparently not monitoring these posts and providing a complete explanation as to the issue. This I do find totally unacceptable and can only serve to enhance the feeling of anti-Sonyism.
