sim card unlock problem

Hi,

I bought an SP. The store where I bought it confirmed that its SIMLOCK-FREE. However whenever I launch my phone and enter my pin I get the following error : "Invalid Sim. Emergency calls only." " SIM card is locked. Emergency calls only."
I can enter my simcard-pin. It accepts it and I see the android 4.1 start screen and can swipe to unlock the phone.

I entered a code #*76....*#*#* and opened "SIM Info" This is what I got: 

[x] Network 5
[] Network subset 0
[] Service provider 0
[] Corporate 0
[] SIM 0

This actually means my phone IS SIM-locked.
After emailing for support the store gave me a 16digit code to unlock my phone.

Now, where do I enter this key? Ive been youtubing/googling and everybody gets prompted to enter the code. I never get a prompt anywhere.


Question: How can I open this window/prompt so I can try to enter this key and unlock my phone.

Im running 4.1.2

12.0.A.2.254


Any other suggestions are welcome too!!

Stuff I tried:
- Tried using other simcards
- Factory reset
- On/Off 
- On/Off

I already did that and looked at those....
The thing is--> I have the unlock key... i start my phone etc etc... but i cant enter my code anywhere.

So my question is: where do I enter this code when I dont get prompted please OR are there any other ways to unlock a phone please. Ty.


EDIT : When using #987654321# ( which isnt for Xperia SP , so i shouldnt have done this ) i got : bad mmi code or connection problem. Maybe that can help you somehow?

A box should pop up when you start the phone with the specific SIM inside.Try to remove and put the SIM back in.

I dont understand. A box pops up asking me for my pincode. Thats all. I enter it correctly and the android device starts. Now I can use my phone ( apps , etc ) but i cant call : Sim Locked. Emergency calls only.

When should i remove my simcard exactly please? I didnt understand.

I hope Sony reads this... Im student at University of Antwerp in Belgium. Me and all my friends study IT so we all know who has what hardware/phone etc. I wont be recommending my phone to any of them. 

You should take a look at the update thread ( 4.1 to 4.3 ). 1000's of complaints. Not 1 "Sorry", nothing.
First & Last time I ever bought anything of Sony. 

Having this issue the entire week. Calling/visiting a sony centre doesnt even help cuz I didnt buy the phone there.

turn phone off ,take out sim card , replace sim card , turn phone on , enter unlock code ,hope this works for you
