Wifi connection to router disconnect during Screen Mirroring with Netgear PTV3000

Hello,

I have purchased the Netgear PTV3000 to do the Screen Mirroring via Miracast technology for my Xperia TX.

Unfortunately, once I use the function of screen mirroring to connect to PTV3000, my wifi connection to my router (Linksys WRT610n v2) would be disconnected either using 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz network, and then the mobile data would be used to achieve the internet browsing, but it seems to be non-sense that we would use the function of screen mirroring to have offline usage like viewing the photo/watching the video/listening to the music inside the phone storage if we didn't have any mobile data connectivity. Also, losing the wifi connection to router, the phone cannot be able to get the DLNA network, so I think it may be the bug as I heard other brand of Miracast-compatible device is able to keep the wifi connection alive when connecting to the miracast adapter.

Would you mind please kindly provide us the firmware update to trigger the issue?

Thanks & Regards

Keith

This has been investigated and unfortunately it will not be possible to support Screen Mirroring and WiFi connection at the same time in this phone.

I actually don't think there is anything wrong here. When the phone connects to your Netgear PTV it uses WiFi direct, which uses the WiFi connection in the phone. The phone can only be connected to one WiFi at the time and therefor disconnects from your router. The solution would be if you could connect the PTV to your router so the WiFi signal can go via the router to the phone and PTV.

Hi Samuel,

Thank you for your reply.

According to this similar questions, the people can be able to use screen mirroring and the wifi connection at the same time. It's the Xperia T in the post.

So, I don't think the phone only can connect to one device only at the same time.

Please kindly check the issue seriously, thanks!

Wifi direct can manage up to 10 devices, at a time connection, at least in Samsung and Huawei phones.

Once, just one time, I able to connect with Screen mirroring and with Trow at the same time, and the result was amazing on TV, no lagg at all. 100% smooth, but I cannot repeat this.

Howsoever the problem is in the Xperia, bechause always I must restart the phone for connection, otherwise not connected or timeouted.

I have escalated the issue internally. I will get back to you as soon as I get an answer.

Hi Samuel,

Thank you!

Since I think it is useless for me about the Screen mirroring at this situation, a lot of content was stored in my NAS storage, but I am unable to access DLNA/SMB service via phone when I am in Screen Mirroring mode.

Hope Sony would provide me a good support about this question, thanks a lot.

Regard,

Keith

Hi laci_csk,

It is a cool explanation for wifi direct, thanks!

I have also got through some information from Google, the way to trigger the connection of Miracast device and the router at the same time is by using wifi multi role, hope I can get it use for screen mirroring with my DLNA network.

Thanks,

Keith

For example, in this moment I open settings >>> wifi >>> more (three dots in the corner) >>> wifi direct and the two options below the screen its gray, not white (not active) and cannot select them. You experienced this? Cannot change even a name (rename device).

Restarted the phone and now the two options is active, searching and rename....How can activate wifi direct was my question once, and I thing the wifi direct is not working properly in xperias.

BTW, wifi direct is not working thru router, so the name is DIRECT, nothing to do with router, or internet. Its like bluetooth connection.

I have the same issue. I specifically bought the Xperia Z with the intention of using miracast while streaming media/browsing the internet so this is a big problem for me.

Yes, I think it should be work miracast and wifi connection to router at the same time.

From Droid Life demo for PTV3000, they can keep the wifi connection alive once they connect to PTV3000, so hope Sony provide the fix update asap.
