3D Transmitter lights, 10 or 15. Comments pls.

Hi Everyone,

I have my TMR-BR100 hooked up to my HX803 and I read some posts about the emitters(lights) on the bar having 15 "lights".  I tested it by taking a picture with my mobile phone and I see 5 lights, a gap in the centre the size of 5 lights, and then another 5 lights.

The 3D on my TV is OK, but I do notice double images sometimes, and I'm wondering if 10 lights is a fault, meaning my glasses are losing synch occassionally.

Posters on a couple of forums say 10 lights is a faulty batch, 15 is fully working.

Can I please have an official Sony response.

Thanks.

Out of interest, where are you getting your 3d content from?

The M&S pack came with some 3D blu-rays, e.g. Michael Jackson "This Is It" and "Alice in Wonderland" with Johnny Depp.

Hi All,

3D content availability, yep, you're right, there isn't much out there, but these are early days.

I use mine almost exclusively for gaming on the PS3, that's where 3D will take off IMO.

I think 3D movies will remain relatively niche.

If you want to try some clips for demoing I get my stuff from here -> http://www.biohemmet.se/

The video is variable depending on how they've coded it, and some stuff needs to be converted to play on a PS3 directly, but if you're a bit techie you can stream directly from a media server. Google is your friend in these cases. I use mkv2vob to convert .mkv for running on a PS3.

Re. the LED business. Please take a look at the AVForums I linked to earlier, that's the best place for discussions on these sorts of things.

It looks like it's a cost-cutting re-design judging by the manufacture dates on the supplied boxes. Early ones 15, later 10.

Whether it affects performance? I don't think we'll ever know for sure.

All the best.

play.com seems to have around 51 titles available in 3D.

I don't see content as being a problem. In the past year we've seen an explosion of 3D movies, so when these hit the shelves, things will start to ramp up.

Hello,

At beginning of design, 15 LED's were use to ensure good response, but during further research in the design centre, it was concluded that 10 LED's with increased power would give same perfomance and is guaranteed.

Reducing to 10 LED's is also a cost benefit, so it reduces cost without affecting quality.

In the case of 10-LED,

Design increased the output power of Infrared light from each LED to x1.5. So, 15x1=10x1.5. Output is same.

Hope this helps.
