connecting and using PC DVD Player

I'm toying wih the idea of using the DVD player on my PC instead of getting a dedicated DVD player, but have a couple of questions.

I have an HDMI output on the PC. Is it as simple as plugging in a cable to allow access to the DVD player?

When I have this connection, is it basically using the TV as a monitor, so I will effectively play the DVD on the PC, but the output will change to the TV, or does the HDMI connection allow extra functionality in that I can use the TV remote for something other than on/off/volume?

Cheers

It should work but you will probably need to press Fn + F7 to turn off the Vaio screen.  You may also have to select HDMI digital output in Control Panel -> Audio.

Unless your Vaio has a dedicated Remote Control, you will have to operate the playback manually an the Vaio.  You can buy a Microsoft Media Player Remote.
