Hi,
I have acquired a KDL-40WD653. It appears to be running the original firmware and won't connect to Youtube (the only 'internet' app available in 'all apps') over wired ethernet or wireless. Both network checks connect correctly.
I have tried to update the firmware over the internet but I get a screen that says "System software update data Searching...." without it finding anything.
The then tried updating the firmware via USB. The current version is v8.211-1000-1.330-01. I have downloaded v8.216 from the sony support page - this is the only version available - and copied it to a FAT32 usb stick. The TV recognises the USB stick but when I try to update via USB, the TV says:
"Software update is not available in TV current mode Do you want to try again?..."
Does anyone know if you can update this TV from v8.211 directly to v8.216?
Are previous versions of the firmware available so I can step it up to the latest version?
If anyone has any light they could throw on this problem, it would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
Hi Northbirch,
Welcome to the community.
We will check this and let you know when we find out more.
Maybe some of our members can offer some tips too.
Best wishes,

Hi Northbirch,
That's a bit unusual. I've double checked the requirements to install this update and no specific version that had to be installed was mentioned. So, I'd recommend a factory reset that you can perform by pressing Home-Settings-Customer Support-Factory reset. I'd also recommend testing the performance of the TV while it's connected to a different network, like a mobile hotspot or something.
Cheers,
