Sony KDL**HX923

Should i be worried, apparently complaints are comming in already for this new tv on dark verticle lines either side of the screen!, i have seen this before on the LG i had that went back for a full refund as it was the area where the ribbon cable joins at the screen for the backlight (could be seen from the front) i had 3 of them and the engineer said its not right, heres the pics of the Sony.

oh dear!,

do you have the manufacture date for it?, natuarally its not the August due batch, the sad thing is that this is the only full backlit next to the LG one thats out there and i feel that this should have been the one, i mean to be fair this is the one, picture quality, excellent motion processing, real black levels etc, just this crease!, even if no one ever mentioned it i would have found it!,

as for convincing one self to keep it is a tough one, especially as i believe it can be put right, i have already waited three months without a tv for this, and dont think i could handle the hassle again,

but we'll see!,

dont forget to tweak it up with a THX disc, its worth the effort.

Hiya Andy

Yep your right press the little button in and the light goe's out. I can hear a slight ticking noise for a few seconds and then it stops.

I have noticed that on the left hand part of the screen about 20cm from the top and say  from the edge there is a faint horizontal shadow coming around 10cm into the screen you can't see it all the time only if the camera man pans down you notice it. Im not sure if it is where the back lights panel starts?????

Hi,

i have no idea on that, i hope theres nothing else to worry about but then dont we all try to find something thats not there!, could be a motion artifact, i did say that motion processing is not for everyone, some say it ruins the picture, i myself cant see that and believe Sony are the masters of motion processing anyway, apart from the four white halos in the corners while the screen prepares for the movies (black background) that flashes on and off i have found no other problems.

My replacement is due tomorrow so now not sure what to expect.  I saw a 55NX813 this morning with no sign of any creases.  I know it's a different TV and type etc but why is it crease free and the HX923 is not???  One would have thought that it would be.  Why did they use glue at all - why not a bevel down the edge???

Good luck with your replacement tomorrow but from what Lee is saying i would not expect too much, i understand the nx813 is edge lit and not backlit however should not make a great deal of difference there as it seems the Adhesive is used to bond the two panels together, there is a metal bevel (of a sort) around the hx923 but i feel that would not be sufficient to hold it all together.

so what do you guys think, i am not liking the sound of "there might always be a fault on the screen talk ",

as the simple question is - wht do some have horrendous black lines,  some like mine - a feint one, and

some are perfect.

do we just keep sending the faulty ones back and hope to get lucky od do we tell sony to give our money back?

i for one am leaning towards, i'll have my money back rather than put up with a faulty unit.

expect to see what I am looking at right now.

a beautiful TV with a minor fault.

such a shame as this TV is almost brilliant. I'm sure you'll agree when yours arrives that the creases are really really hard to see...but you will notice them and you wont be able to stop noticing them because you know they are there and your eyes will be drawn to them. i'm doing that right now...i guess in time i'd revert back to being normal and just watch the tv show and enjoy it but i can't help feeling i shouldn't have to feel this way having paid nearly 3K for this.

its such a lovely TV as well :slight_frown:

i do already have one, with the fault only visible half way down the left hand side.

i am supposed to be getting a replacement friday.

now i am worried, instead of sending out good ones, they are just re-cycling the ones they have already and

i could end up with an even worse fault than now.

like you say, even on normal pictures my eye keeps being drawn across to the faulty area, where it just looks a bit out of focus, until you get a solid colour, then you get a nice black line.

as i said before, some people have PERFECT ones, so why should the rest of us make do?

if you keep a faulty one, imagine how much you will get for it , when you come to sell it. Would you buy a faulty one or a perfect one, as no doubt there will be lots for sale by then.
