Can't remove the DC socket cover / housing on my FW21M...

Hello,

I'm currently trying to replace the power port on my laptop. I've removed the back but am struggling to remove the housing which covers the port...I've removed the one visible screw making it feel fairly free in all directions, however it does not detach...I've applied force but still no luck.

Any advice would be massively appreciated!

Thanks, Alex.

Hi Alex,

It would seem from this YouTube video that to remove the part you refer to requires considerable disassembly. The procedure is shown approx. 11:45 in. Obviously there are previous steps that will be unnecessary for your task but it seems that both top and bottom casings do need to be removed.

I have not tackled this on an FW but this link may help...

Thanks for the link Rich. As informative as the page is, it doesn't answer my problem unfortunately. It's the piece that's already missing, shown on the first image (to the left of the speakers)...have searched google already to no avail. I've seen that people have experienced the same problem but have not yet found a solution...the most frustrating thing is that it seems loose but just will not come free...

Thank you very much for your help though!

Hi Rich,

Had thought I'd seen all the relevant vids but you prove me wrong. This has really helped and I have now managed to remove the part! Didn't have to disassemble to the extent shown in the video thankfully; it can actually be done with just the back removed...just had to lever out at the right place with a little force...

Thank you so much for your help!!!

Alex.
