My laptop is being serviced by a technician and he has informed me that the chipset south bridge needs replacing. I want to order the part myself, but I cannot find the part number or the manufacturer i.e. Intel in the specs for my computer, or anywhere on the Sony official website.
If anyone in this community knows the part number or any related useful information, and can help, I would be really grateful if they could let me know asap. Thanks.

Wow that was quick! Thank you so much for your helpful reply Rich912.
I have located a seller on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-Piece-New-Intel-NQ82915PM-SL8B4-82915PM-IC-Chipset?item=190686307145&ih=...
Would this be the correct item? The ad does not specify whether the item is for North bridge or South Bridge. Does it matter?
All the best,
VAIOwner2012
I'm no expert on this but the chip in your link would appear to be a North Bridge. A South Bridge chip will look more like this..
Compatibility between the North and South Bridge is a complicated issue and therefore unless you can obtain the existing chip reference it would probably be best left to whoever is carrying out the repair - then there can be no arguement!

OK I have checked the Intel website and have a number for the item:
So I shall take it from there. Thanks for all your help.
You're welcome VAIOwner2012.
That would appear to be the correct South Bridge ICH6-M chip. I would be interested to know whether replacing this cures whatever problem you have/had.
