PS3 Remote Play / Keyboard software

Hi there,

I uninstalled the remote play software some time ago, but now have a PS3 and want to install it, however it's not listed on the downloads for my laptop (SVE1711C5E).  Also, Sony's cryptic file naming in the FTP makes it impossible to find.

Could someone provide a link or at least the FTP path to the remote play installer?

Have a look here - no guarantees it is the right link as there is more than one version of Remote Play available

Keyboard installed fine, however remote play gets stuck registering the DLL with regsvr32.  I had the same with various other dowloads I had found.

Seems rather silly that Sony make it so hard to install the software your computer comes with!

How are you trying to register the DLL?

I'm not registering it, the installer is. But the installer hangs and
looking at task manager shows regsvr32 using a whole core. No matter how
long I wait it never stops, so killing the task lets the installer finish.

I have then tried manually running the same command (taking the command
line from looking at task manager earlier) the same thing happens.

I tried these dodgy versions and they did the same, was hoping the official
version would work better.

It came pre-installed so no idea why it's not installing correctly now!

Would I be able to extract the version from my recovery partition maybe?
This feature isn't worth a full re install!

Nb: am running win 8 using official update procedure and vaio update is
fully up to date.

I didn't realise that you have upgraded to Windows 8!

Are any of the versions you have tried Windows 8 compatible?

I have found a Remote Keyboard for Windows 8: -

However, I have not found a Remote Play for Windows 8 yet.  Windows 8 Vaios only appear to have Remote Keyboard.

I wonder if Windows 8 Vaios use the built in "Play To" feature built into Windows 8 which seems to do the same thing: -

I got one of the questionable downloads to install without issue, but it was a very old one and I didn't really want hacked stuff on there.

Maybe the only way to run it is if you install it under 7 and then upgrade, who knows, maybe Sony will get round to releasing a Win8 version at some point!

"Play to" is surely a DLNA thing for regular media?
