Hi Robbiea94 and welcome to the Sony Users Community.
If you Google for "H-L Data Storage GT30N SATA Super Multi DVD+/-R Rewriter" you will find many compatible drives. This one is £35 as it is a Sony Part Number but you should be able to find one for half that price.

It is important to get a H-L GT30N so that the plastic bezel plate from your current drive can be transferred. Swapping the drive is simple - just two screws and pull it out. It may be worth trying this before you buy a new drive just in case there is a bad connection in the plug-in socket inside the Vaio.

Not only does it show you which two screws to remove, it may also answer your second question about cleaning the fan.

Does your existing drive show in Device Manager? Does it have any errors against it?
