I have a Logitech z 5.1 woofer, which produces stunning surround sound. Previously I had Leeco Le1s with Sony atmos and was able to get 5.1 audio output from my woofer. But since, I have started using Xperia X as the auxiliary input for the woofer, I am only getting stereo sound, only 3 speakers produce sound, where as 2 remaining speakers notable the rear right and rear left produce a static noise, a humming sound. I am so disappointed that a reasonably Costlier smartphone from Sony performs so poorly when compared to a cheap Chinese set in terms of its audio output. Also the headset sound quality is poor as compared to Le1s. Sony, can I get 5. 1 output!!
First of all, you do need 5.1 sound files and the Sony Music App for playback. 5.1 playback is possible digitally via USB out only. Via the headphone out jack you get always stereo downmix.
As far as I know and as far as I've tested it, the Xperia X can playback 5.1 AAC files and 5.1 DSD files.
In fact, the Sony Xperia X has a great sound quality - if you keep in mind
The Xperia X is able to display clearly all the differences between 128kbit MP3, 256Kbit AAC, 16bit FLAC/ALAC or high res audio.
