I have an Xperia X Compact. Recently I invested in a new Sony bluetooth headphone set (WF-1000x). I was a bit surprised that the headset supports AAC as an enhanced quality audio codec, but not AptX. And the Xperia supports the AptX enhanced quality audiocodec, but not AAC.
The headset works, as all bluetooth devices have to support the lowest common denominator codec SBC. However, I had hoped for a bit more strategy from Sony on the interoperability and best experience from their current generation of mobile devices.
My question is whether it can be expected that Sony will add additional codec support in future firmware updates, perhaps if Android O gets rolled out or even sooner? Or is codec support defined by the hardware in the devices, rather than in software?
