No Compact phone in future?

"Sony to discontinue 'Premium Standard' smartphones; don't expect a successor to Xperia X and Xperia XCompact." Says Xperia blog.

Does this mean we will not see a Compact smartphone at all in the future? That would be a real drama for me. I love the compact footprint of these phones. Or will there be a Compact version of a high end phone like the Z1, Z3 and Z5 with the same high end specs (and not a strilt down version)? This is the option I prever.

I think that Sony may still do Compact smartphones but return to the high-end Compact (like the Z Compact)... XZ1 Compact maybe...

Sounds fair but I'm a bit sad because I'm very happy with my X Compact and I wouldn't have been able to buy an XZ Compact (the Z5 Compact was 150€ more than the X Compact at their launch)

I'll keep my X Compact as long as I can but after I don't know... maybe a Galaxy A3... even if I really want to stay with an Xperia but they will need to put an effort on the bezels at the top / bottom to convince me to take an XA... and to put a better battery in it... well... it doesn't sounds well... It will be very sad if compact phones dissappear. A low end phone won't do it for me, medium to high is OK, but of course price is always a factor. In fact I searched for a long time, tried i4 for a week or two (hated the thing) and narrowed it down to the Z5 compact at the time. All other compact phones were low end. Galaxy series was out from the start due to a terrible experience with a S3 mini (hated it as well, use it only as a radio and sports tracker). Then when I tried going the Z5 route I was told no longer available, but X compact is and so I ended up owning one.

I don't get it, years ago our phones were the size of bricks. Then they became beautifully compact and light, easily fitting in a shirt pocket. And then the touch screen craze hit and now ? Well do you know how ridiculous you look holding a floor tile to your ear ? Fablets almost need two hands to hold......
