Xperia X keeps telling me to transfer data to sd card, when I go to do it, it tells me to insert one, I have one in, but phone doesn't seem to recognise it, please help I'm demented!!

Have you tried your SD card in any other devices to see if it works?
No Cameron I haven't, it was a brand new one out the packet so I assumed it would just work.
Under Settings > Storage > Show Storage, do you see "SD Card" in here?
If so, tap on it, press the 3 dots on the top right and select "Storage Settings". In here, choose "Format"
