Suddenly restarts in v7.1.1

After latest update my Xperia X suddenly restarts, but I dont need to reenter sim pincode. I havent been able to see why. It hapends during calls, with bluetooth enable and even with just surfing. The screen flicker and gets blurry before restart.

I have Android 7.1.1. with firmware 34.3.A.0.228
I have tried to restore factory defaults, changed sim card, taken out SD card, but it doesnt seem to affect it. My only guess is that it have something to do with bluetooth, but I am not sure.

Any suggestions?

Hi @borgelp, sorry to hear about this. Slightly_frowning_Face

When you reset the phone back to factory settings, did you start installing new applications directly , restored a backup or did you use the phone for a bit before you did that and you still experienced the same behaviour?

To make sure that a downloaded application isn't the cause of these restarts, I recommend that you start with rebooting the phone in safe mode and use it as you would normally do. Such as making a few phone calls, watch a couple of videos on YouTube, use Chrome to browse the Internet and so on and see if there has been any change.

If there is no change while the phone is rebooted in safe mode, try performing a software repair using Xperia Companion. This is different from a factory reset, since the software in the phone will be reinstalled.

Do note that when you perform the repair, all data stored on the internal storage will be deleted, so it is advised to create a backup using Xperia Companion before you start with the repair process!

Let me know how it goes!

I restored to factory default and restored apps and content from backup.

I should try the solutions with software repair.

I found restart problem in another Xperia XZ forum (i think), and the solution were upgrade from 7.1.1 to 7.1.2. At the moment 7.1.2 isn´t available for Xperia X. Will it be available in near future?

Hi again @borgelp, thanks a lot for the information.

Have you had the time to try and perform the software repair? If you have, has there been any change?

I'm afraid that I do not have any information regarding Android 7.1.2, however the Xperia X will be updated to Android 8 (Oreo).

Keep me posted!

@borgelp and @Jonas if it's true that "The screen flicker and gets blurry before restart" this could be RAM or GPU/RAM failure aka Hardware... better contacting Local support

I tried software repair for some days ago, but in the last 4 days it have restartet three times. The only common issue I can think of is that bluetooth was connected every time. It have restartet during calls, during spotify listening and also lying on the table connected to the bluetooth headset.

Since bluetooth was connected every time I think there is a connection, but I am not sure.

Hi again @borgelp, thank you for the information.

Would it be possible for you to not use Bluetooth for a day or two? I understand that if you are using it a lot and you have to use it because of, for example work I understand if this is not optimal.

However this would be the best troubleshooting to do since you have already performed a software repair, and the next step would be having the device examined at an authorized service centre.

Please keep us posted!

Yes, I can try that. The device havent restarted since yesterday so I have to test it for some days to be sure that eventually is a solution. 🙂

Guys,

I have this EXACT issue. Screen goes blurry, flickers and reboots.

Tried everything. Removed apps installed since the last update. Still the same.

Tried to transfer apps out of phone storage, and it won't work. Everytime it gets to the app transfer bit, it goes blurry and reboots.

I don't really want to do a factory reset, but will try booting in safe mode as suggested above and see how it goes.

just tried safe boot. same issue. initiated the transfer of the apps to SD card. same issue, just restarted (so clearly not 3rd party app issue?)

rebooted into normal mode, and unmounted the SD card. then saw that there was an update in Play store. clicked on that, phone rebooted (i need to mention that the issue is really bad during Play store app updates - I had 8 updates earlier in the week, and the phone rebooted 10+ times for this process).

clearly an issue. and the phone is hardly 3 mths old!  >(
