transfer stuff from old phone to new when old screen broken

My Xperia Compact X suffered a severe impact to its screen with the result that although the phone is still powered up, visible on my wifi network and the notification LED is blinking, its display is completely unusable.  I've bought a replacement, but can't see how to transfer all my data across when Sony requires me to run the Transfer Mobile app on both devices - how can I tell my old phone to run an installed app when it doesn't have a usable touchscreen?  I hoped that the Google backup and restore would work, but this is just telling me there isn't a backup.  Help!

Hi @nmwo, Welcome to the community. I am sorry to hear about this Slightly_frowning_Face

If the screen of your smartphone or tablet has stopped working, you may still be able to navigate the display and use the device. Before you hand in the device for repair, you may want to move or copy content, such as contacts or media files from your device to a memory card (SD card) or to a cloud backup service (online account). However, your device must be unlocked for this to be possible. So, if you use a screen lock on your device, you may be able to unlock the screen lock using the method described below, and then backup your content. Depending on the extent of damage to the Xperia™ device, the solution given here might not work.

The screen doesn't react to touch, but you can view what's on it

You can navigate your device using a USB mouse. You need:

  • a USB mouse
  • a USB Host/USB OTG (On-the-Go) adapter cable

To navigate an Xperia™ device using a USB mouse

  1. Attach the USB Host adapter cable to your Xperia™ device.
  2. Connect the USB mouse to the USB Host adapter cable. The mouse pointer should appear in the display.
  3. Navigate your device using the mouse.

unfortunatley the screen is totally smashed up, so it's not possible to do anything with the display/touchscreen

So you can't see anything on the display at all? Slightly_frowning_Face

Unfortunately, the Xperia X series do not support MHL to HDMI. I don't have another way to help you back up your device. I apologise for the inconvenience this is causing you.
