Bravia App issues

One of my apps on the TV (Now TV) came up with a message saying the app needed updating. It took me to the Google Play Store which showed a message that it could not connect:

"Something went wrong ... Check your Wi-Fi or get a notification when your connection comes back"

Clicking directly on the Google Play Store App on the Home screen produces the same result.

I have done all the checks I could find that have been posted ... Clock/Date/Time,  Power cycling, Clearing cache etc, Checking for system updates (the TV tells me it is up-to-date) ....

I have not tried a Factory Reset yet (dreading because I am not sure I have a note of all the various logins that would probably be needed)

Any thoughts please?

TIA

Clearly space doesn't seem to be an issue. Sorry I don't have the same model as you and ran out of obvious ideas.

Check passwords.google.com before you reset to factory. You may find out most of your passwords are saved there. This will make your re-setup easier. I think I remember you were concerned about not remembering your passwords?

I gritted my teeth and did a 'Factory Reset'

This has everything working again.

Just have my Prime account to get  the password for off my daughter when she comes home from work!

I assume an update messed up an app which corrupted others. The first thing that I noticed going wrong was BBC iPlayer.

Anyway thanks again for your efforts!

I thought I should add that Google Movies/TV app works ok

Another thought is that when I go to Google Play on my laptop there is double authentication ... it sends my phone a message that I have to click on ... so is this TV App failing on this?

A further attempt was restart the router (my Bravia is connected to it via Ethernet)

I re-checked the Google Play Games App, and it shows me games, but when I click on a game and 'Install' it then takes me to Google Play Store and it fails as before.

I tried turning off 2 step Authentication on Google, but this had no effect on the TV problem.

I am now out of ideas

Hey Blinkinhek, what's the model number of your TV? And the current software version?

Hello!

The model number is KD-49XD8099

I am not sure what the software version is. I looked around the 'Settings' and in ''Device Preferences'/About' have the following information:

Version 9

Android Security Patch Level 5th March 2021

Kernel Version 4.9.125

The Google Play Store App is Version 29.5.14-21 [8][PR] 430999422

As an additional item, the BBC IPlayer App also no longer functions

I also tried 'System Software Update' this evening, and it displayed a message 'System Software Update data cannot be found. ...... Error (1106)

I Hope you can help.

Looking at other posts they refer to the help screen for the system software version.

This tells me PKG6.7165.0360EUA

Hope this is enough.

Just checking that by "power cycle" you mean a restart of the system, not just turning the TV on and off? Restart = hold the power key and select restart when the menu appear.

Another possibility, remote given the error message, is that you ran our of space. Check here: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00112912.

By Power cycle I tried two things .... as you described, holding the power button on the remote - this came up with a menu asking me if I wanted to restart; and the second way where I turned the TV off and pulled the power plug, leaving it for 10 minutes before plugging it back in.

As for memory, I checked as you suggested and Available = 4.9GB

I followed the USB update process, and the television just came up with a message that the TV was already upto-date.  Do you think it is time for me to try a Factory Reset?
