Sony Xperia SP keeps restarting

I updated my phone to 12.1.A.0.266 a few weeks ago through wifi when Sony released it officially. And now my phone keeps restarting. It doesn't even reach the home screen. Factory reset(under the back panel) and any hard or soft reset doesn't work.

It all started after I updated the phone to the new firmware. The new UI was slow and laggy. Sometimes when I used to pick up the phone speaker used to be switched on.

From a few days, the volume on the screen just showed a horizontal bar and not the actual volume UI.
3-4 days ago Chrome crashed and 2 days ago Google search and Google now crashed. I installed Amazon kindle app for Android last night but that too crashed in the morning.

And from afternoon, the phone itself crashed.

How do I get my phone back to life?

Remove the SIM and download PC companion to repair software:

You may need to perform a software repair using PC companion. The process will erase all internal memory. You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 60% battery.

Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).

Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable. If PC companion does not start the repair process, you might need to run it in compatibility mode with Windows 7 (in some cases XP).

Hi Alex ,

I have the same issues and have performed the repair procedure several times but i still find it restarts when not connected to a charging/data lead. It seems relatively stable whilst connecte with only the occasional restart but when it is disconnected it gets stuck in a reboot cycle.

Any suggestions on what i might be doing wrong?

Thanks

Hi all,

I have the same problem in Xperia SP..it keeeps restarting once sim card is inserted.

But if connected to wall charger or PC then it works well.

I have tried

Reset Factory settings

Repaired software through PC companion.

Tried to start in Safe mode.

Sony service centre has repaired software and it worked OK for around 2-3 hours,

but as when I brought at home it started to restart again.

Is it any technical issue..??

I talked to Sony service centre and he told that might be a motherboard problem...Will it be ok after doing this??

Anyone who had this problem please answer, if your problem got resolved..

I have send it to service centre again for checking and will update you all what happens next..

Thx.
