3D Transmitter lights, 10 or 15. Comments pls.

Hi Everyone,

I have my TMR-BR100 hooked up to my HX803 and I read some posts about the emitters(lights) on the bar having 15 "lights".  I tested it by taking a picture with my mobile phone and I see 5 lights, a gap in the centre the size of 5 lights, and then another 5 lights.

The 3D on my TV is OK, but I do notice double images sometimes, and I'm wondering if 10 lights is a fault, meaning my glasses are losing synch occassionally.

Posters on a couple of forums say 10 lights is a faulty batch, 15 is fully working.

Can I please have an official Sony response.

Thanks.

This seems to be a bigger issue with more reports of differences of performance between 10 and 15 light transmitters.

Any ideas ?

Some more info for those that are interested.

It looks like the more recently manufactured transmitters have fewer emitters.

This is just through observations made by posters in the links to AVForums.

Cost-cutting?

Affects performance?

Reducing the number of emitters by 33% might be viewed as highly likely to affect synching, and seems a very short-sighted piece of penny pinching on such high end TVs.

Comments please, Sony, anyone?

Oh, and can I have my 5 LEDs back please.

I have 10 on a transmitter which I have just received. Watched a 3d Blue Ray over the week end and wasn't very impressed. Very distinct green and pink colours all over the screen. Do I need the disposable 3D glasses you might get out of a newspaper as well as the Active Shutter glasses?

Hi gentie, I think you've bought one of the old style 3D blu rays where you needed the coloured glasses, not one for our active shutter glasses.  Have a read here:

Hi seboyad, thanks for your response and the link. I rent through love film and think you are right. One question I didn't ask Sony before my purchase was 'Is there much 3d content for active shutter glasses around?' I think the answer might be no! However, I found the emulated/simulated effect ok. Do you know where I might get more 3d content from that would work with the shutter glasses?

HI,

I have since tested my transmitter using an camera, and it has 15 transmitters on.

(So people know, if you watch a 3D film then use a digital camera screen it will show clearly how may transmitters are on the bar)

My transmitter came as part of a Sony 3D bundle pack from M&S.

3D quality seams OK really. Shame the glasses coudl nto have been lighter.

I recently received one from Sony directly and it also has 10 leds.

It would indeed be good to get a response from Sony on the difference, the impact of having only 10 leds and why the change was made.

Is there anyone from Sony who can comment or should we all be raising support calls?

Thanks,

Mine is part of an M&S package, and has 15 transmitters. The 3D image is pretty good. It flickers a bit when the light is bright. I recommend Theatre Mode for viewing 3D movies.
