Playing films from USB

I have a Bravia KDL-32EX403 and am having problems playing films from th USB.

Some films won't play at all and some play and then when  I return to them won't.

The same message comes up "playback not available"

Has anybody else had the same problem and has it been fixed?

The films are in avi. format.

Thanks for the reply.

I have tried handbrake but still doesn't work.

I thinking that a multi media player may be best like the sony SMP-u10.

Does anyone know if this will play avi files?

The file formats it supports are not as good as the BRAVIA. What settings are you using on Handbrake as no reason why it shouldn't work....

The settings are either MP4 or MKV and the preset I used was Regular.

I did see if I could set it to something other but it seems that handbrake has moved away from mpeg.

Find attached compatible formats and extensions for USB Bravia 2010. MKV is not there.
