Can't run Sony VAIO Care to create Recovery Disks

Hi all

The notebook is a VPCEE3E0E. It's telling me the SMART system has detected a hard disk error on boot, so I've got a new hard disk to install. I'm trying to access VAIO Care to create recovery media (the machine will boot but it's not very happy) but nothing happens when I

1: Press the Assist button

2: Try to run it from the Start menu

3: Access the program in Explorer and try to run it as normal or administrator.

This happens in both normal startup and safe mode.

Can anyone give me any tips please how to run the 'create recovery disks' program bypassing the VIAO Care, or how to get the Care system to run in the first place?

It's Windows 7 Home Premium (I think 32 bit).

Thanks in anticipation!

Hi djynja,

welcome to Questions & Answers..:smileyhappy:

If you have backed up your imortant data on your HDD then it be a worth trying to restore your vaio back to factory settings as this might allow you to create a set of recovery disc..

On models with the ASSIST button

1 Press the ASSIST button while your computer is off to launch VAIO Care Rescue.

If the display language selection window appears, select your desired language and click OK.

2 Click Start recovery wizard.

To perform the custom recovery, select Tools and click Start advanced recovery wizard.

3 Follow the on-screen instructions.

If the above does not work then you can purchase a set of recovery discs from Sony support which should allow you re-install the oringinal supplied OS & programs, etc..

Thanks Thalamus :)

Nothing doing at all with the Assist button, I'm afraid.

I've tried upgrading the VAIO Care but it's informing me it's not a Sony machine! HDD must be really unhappy.

I've sent the tech people a message to see if they can put me on the right track to getting replacement disks.

Thanks very much and I'll let you know how I get on :)
